Partington Theatre Expansion Project

PUBLISHED: May 2, 2023
Since any of our members and volunteers can remember, we’ve all looked across Norfolk Square at our neighbouring NatWest Bank building with dreams of “what if…” — and now it is officially for sale.

Exciting possibilities ahead for the arts in Glossop

We’ve had a running joke with the NatWest staff for years. Whenever we’re building our sets, drilling, sawing, hammering away on stage, they could hear us through our shared wall. They’d laugh to each other, “the theatre is trying to break into our vault again!” They were good neighbours and a valued service to the town, and we were very sad to hear the branch was closing.

However, this now provides us with an unprecedented opportunity. Amongst ourselves we’re calling this “Project Bank Heist” in fond memory of their teasing.

Creating a new arts hub in the centre of Glossop

Volunteer advocates needed

At this early stage we are actively seeking community support from the good people of Glossop and surrounding areas. Our first challenge is to acquire the building; we’re going to need a strong showing of support both vocally and financially to show the sellers how a new arts centre would positively impact our town.

Do you have a few minutes here and there to help promote our vision on social media? Could you help us with upcoming fundraising events and campaigns? We’d love to hear from you!

Contact us directly if you would like to get involved with this project or simply wish to learn more.

Do you wish to become an effective part of our vibrant and hard-working Theatre?

Restoration work is necessary to maintain the building so that it may be passed onto future generations as a viable base for amateur theatre.
