Join David Scott for an intimate glimpse into the comedic artistry and creative legacy of the iconic Caroline Aherne. From the sharp-tongued Mrs Merton to the quietly revolutionary The Royle Family. Scott delves into Aherne’s most memorable character creations. His book explores how her inventive mind reshaped the British comedy landscape through work that has been celebrated for its sharp wit, warmth and ability to find humour in adversity. Drawing on tales from collaborators and telling behind-the-scenes stories, Scott provides insight into the creative processes that brought these renowned works to life. He examines the social and cultural influences that shaped Aherne’s work, from the rich traditions of Northern working-class humour to the experiences of Irish migrants.
David Scott is a writer, poet, BBC presenter, podcaster, and YouTuber. His debut book, Mancunians: Where Do We Start, Where Do I Begin? was nominated for The People’s Book Prize in 2023.
