Auditions- “Allo, Allo, Allo, est there anybody la?”

Title & Playwright: “Allo, Allo, Allo, est there anybody la?” by Ian Hornby
Directed by: Freya Rowland

The play takes place in Squire Grange; a manor that is home to Sir Malcolm and his wife Lady Amelia. A brutal murder has taken place and a tired Inspector and their thoughtless sidekicks are on the case. Unfortunately for them, the bodies start to mount and the audience barely has time to gasp before the deceased pop back up- only now as ghosts.

Audition Information:
The audition will aim to make people feel comfortable with one another. I know auditions can be stressful at times, so I want to avoid that at all costs. I am looking for who fits each character, of course, but what I feel is more important is that the cast works well together. As this is a silly play, I want people to be at ease in making fools of themselves. I will be looking for energy and pace as well, as these are important factors in farce. We may play some little games to break the ice so please embrace it and have some fun.

What to Prepare:
● Wear something comfortable that you can move about in. I can send excerpts of the script if people work better preparing instead of sight reading- if you require this, please enquire.
● Stretch and bring water.
● Let me know prior if there’s anything you are unable to do.

Notes from the Director:
This will be my first time working exclusively with an adult cast, and I’m very excited to take on the challenge. I welcome ideas about characterisation and such, as I enjoy working with actors who can think like directors when needed. I have done this piece before, years ago, when I was in college and I really enjoyed it. I played Mabel the maid and it’s one of my favourite shows I’ve been a part of to date. I really hope that whoever I cast will feel the same after, as being a part of a comedy performance is often really fun. I want the audience to feel like they’re in on the joke with the actors so that they leave content enough to come back and join us again. There is room for cock ups with this show, so hopefully that will help to ease some of the pressure andmaybe encourage people who haven’t done a lot of acting at Partington’s to step forward and audition. I look forward to seeing which of the rabble turn up.
